This quote is true as its better to be alone with bad people. When your alone you are able to control you actions. While with bad people you cant control the way others act.With other people you are also more likely to be peer pressured into doing something. Where as if you were alone the only,person there would be you and you would decide. Also if you are hanging with friends of bad company and they do something bad then your reputation will also be hurt. While if you are with good company then you may get a better reputation. Also if you are with good company they wont peer pressure you into anything. You also would have a clear conscience all the time. Its always better to hang with good company.
